Difficult Rectal Problems

When surgery is required

Though Dr. Fox attempts to treat hemorrhoids without surgery, sometimes the hemorrhoids have been allowed to get so bad that surgery is required.

I had a rectal fistula for over ten years. I had two different surgeons treat it but it still came back. I came to Dr. Fox at the Mid-South Rectal Clinic and now my fistula is gone.”

At the Mid-South Rectal Clinic founded in December 2004 by Dr. Michael M. Fox a Board Certified Colon and Rectal surgeon with 25 years of experience when surgery is required Dr. Fox performs the Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy. This is a procedure he brought to the Mid-South six years ago.

The Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy involves the use of special instrument that allows Dr. Fox to do the surgery on the hemorrhoids above the line where there are no pain nerves. Thus with Dr. Fox’ surgery, the procedure is much more tolerable than with the old-fashion operation.

Reports on the Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy in the surgical journals state that pain scores are 1.7, on a scale of 10, compared to pain scores of 7 on a scale of 10 using traditional procedures.

Fissures, fistulas and warts

Other complicated problems that can involve the rectum are fissures, fistulas and warts. Fissures are tears that happen in the rectal area that lead to terrible pain. Fistulas are tunnels that burrow through the rectal area and can lead to abscesses, infections, pain, swelling and drainage.

I was terribly embarrassed by my warts and now they are gone.”

Dr. Fox employs advanced techniques that allow for safer, less invasive and more successful results for these difficult problems.
